Overview:

Leader led theoretical presentation and group discussion and demonstration when appropriate. Participants will be expected to participate in the discussion as well as share how these concepts affect their professional practice and personal lives.

In this second series we will study Jean-Marie Robine’s book, Situation, Field Perspective and Formation of Forms in Gestalt Therapy: Social Change Begins with Two. Each month as we delve more deeply into Gestalt Therapy Theory, we will pay particular attention to the shift created by applying a field theoretical lens to Gestalt Therapy concepts.

These will include self, intentionality, intuition, creativity, embodiment, creative adjustment and growth. Building upon this foundation we will then turn our attention to pathology within a field orientation and the resulting consequences for the psychotherapeutic encounter and the forms created from experience.

Finally we will look at the application of the theory to social change.

Learning objectives:

  • Following the layout of the book, participants will be able to articulate:
    • How situations create self
    • How situations create pathology
    • How situations create forms
    • How situations create encounters
  • Identify the significance of each of the above in the therapeutic encounter.
  • Apply an understanding of each of the above to their work, their clinical practice and/or Gestalt therapy teaching, as well as in their life.
